Report on club social Tuesday 29th.April

Well done to Dee McGinn and Paul Dixon for organising a great surprise party for Teddy Larkin, who has reached the big eight O and Chris Hill the big seven O.

Two people who have been the backbone of the club for many years. Both have been active members since the mid 70s and contributed greatly to the club. Teddy and Chris are both recipients of the ‘Member of the Year’ award.

Chris jokingly thanked Paddy Maddock for accepting him into the club after his ‘TRIAL’ period. In the early days of the club if you were not a capable rider, or if you were a ‘Bit of a Cowboy’ you were not accepted into the club.

There was a great attendance with a jovial atmosphere. It was lovely to see Patrizia there after her cancer treatment. Word had it that she was going for a run as pillion with Davide the following day.

Frank Cronin was looking fit and healthy after having his two hips replaced. Two hips in one go……the wonders of medical science!.

Johnny (Honda) McGouran was also there after a long absence. Thanks to Johnny’s son who drove him out for the occasion.

Eric Morton came over from Galway for the celebrations. He and Chris have been friends for many years.

Dermot Keeley who is north of 80 was there on his new Honda Rebel 500cc. A new bike at that age is wonderful indeed.

As a result of a very wet day last week, Conor Gill made a lovely raffle drum for the club. It will get its first ‘Roll’ at the Mystery 500 on Sat. 10th May. Conor also made the club charity box……Well done Conor.

The amount donated to the box on the night was €92.64……many thanks.

Nessa Waldron brought two beautiful clocks mounted on wood, which may be auctioned or raffled. John Kane made these to raise money for the club charity. Chris Hill had a portable camping table for sale……He was open to offers, cash going to club charity. He also had a nice set of spanners which were open to offers.

Ann McDonald had some bike gear belonging to a deceased friend of hers, She was open to offers, again proceeds going to charity.

Mick Nevin has kindly volunteered to organise the May monthly run.

Andy Deane came up from Cork and thanked all members for their condolences on the death of his lovely wife Deirdre who was laid to rest last Friday.

John Tannam and Nessa Waldron stepped into Stephen Whelans role in the kitchen and did a remarkable job. I think Stephen left instructions with them before he took off on his trip to Hungry. Standards have to be kept.

Overall a great night was had by all. Thanks to everyone who arrived early and made sure the surprise element was a success. Teddy and Chris were caught on the hop !

Thanks to Tara Sheridan who filled in for Stephen Whelan and captured the celebrations on video.

Until our next event…….stay safe.

Jim.
