March 16th Sunday Run Report

Seeing that it was the St. Patrick’s Weekend it was decided to go for a breakfast run rather than the usual longer lunch run.

This was the first time to use Woodenbridge golf course. The catering is managed by the same company who look after the Arklow golf club. It has good facilities and had no problem catering for our group of 53.

Before we left Spawell, Martin Carragher, Membership Sec. reminded everyone that you MUST fill in a renewal form when renewing your membership as the club needs it for the records.

The route took us down the N11 to J11 where we picked up the coast road to Wicklow and Brittas Bay. We then went inland towards Redcross and Avoca.

The coast road to Wicklow is a popular route with the lycra cycling brigade, and they were out in large numbers. It's amazing after a long cold winter when Spring arrives and a bit of fine weather appears, the outdoor people also appear, not like us folk who bike all year round……”A hardy lot” !

We arrived at the golf club at 11.30am. Just in time to enjoy a hearty breakfast, and it was reduced from €13.50 to €12.00.

To get to the club house you had to cross the level crossing on the main Wexford rail line and then over a bridge spanning the Avoca river. It's a very scenic and tranquil location. For those of you interested in history there is a lovely World War 1 memorial park close to the golf course dedicated to the young men of Wicklow who died during that war.

We must always be conscious when using golf club facilities. Their members pay large annual membership fees and if we disrupt them in any way while on the premises they may not take too kindly to it. So always be considerate. So far the golf clubs have served us well.

The April run is being organized by Bryan Joyce and Glen Horan and from all accounts it's going to be a good one. Details will be on the Website soon. In the meantime Stay Safe.

Jim.
