Well, we could not have asked for a better day. Lovely autumn sunshine after two wet dull grey days.

26 members left Spawell only to lose Noel O’Kelly early into the trip. Noel was on his first club run. Unfortunately a group of other motorcyclists got in between us and Noel followed them which can happen with such a large group. He missed the back marker. It wasn't until he arrived in Laragh he realised he was with the wrong group. In fairness he made his way to Highfield GC. in time for the grub.

Frank Cronin rides with another group and tells me it has happened to them on occasions, so they now wear an arm band to distinguish them…..not a bad idea !

We only had one pillion on the run, the ever smiling Michelle Wenz.

The route went to Poulaphouca, Ballymore Eustace and Kilcullen where we had a stop to facilitate the smokers,..... while Stephen Whelan was sowing the motorcycle seed in a young Brazilian lad who was fascinated with the bikes. Here Pearse Fitzsimons spotted his soft back tyre, Cushy Kane had him pumped up in no time. We rode the R 413 towards the Curragh. This is a road with lots of twisties, a good biking road. We passed through Kildare, Rathtangan, Clonbulloge, Edenderry, Carbury then our destination…..Highfield Golf Club where they also play ‘FOOTGOLF’.

As golf clubs go this one is different, lots of wooden timber used in the construction of it. Like something you would see in Canada. There was a very laid back atmosphere about the place, staff very friendly and helpful.

Simon Porter and Teddy Larkin arrived just behind us, as did Chris Hill.

There was a slight delay paying for the food due to an Internet glitch…….cash is king !. Some members were sporting some very nice new motorcycle gear, looking very smart indeed.

Members dined indoors while some availed of the sunshine and stayed outside. There was plenty of chat……camping trips…. holidays…. Way West Rally bookings and picking up outstanding photo points before the closing deadline.

It was such a lovely day some members took the long way home.

Jim.
