Martin Carragher
Like many others in the club I started biking in my teens, My first bike was a 250cc BSA Star, I enjoyed it for a few years mostly just local riding around the home area apart from one notable spin to Waterford.
I was on four wheels from age 19 onwards, however I promised myself I’d get back to biking when I retired, which I duly did.
I’ve had a quite a few bikes since then, My favourite one was a BMW K1600, I really enjoyed it, very powerful, beautifully balanced and had all the mod cons, I took it through the Pyrenees on one trip, with dozens of fairly sharp switchbacks etc, no bother whatsoever, she sailed around them all beautifully.
However it was quite heavy and at almost 350 Kilos it had to go. I then downsized to a BMW RT, quite a bit lighter but eventually it had to be replaced by a lighter one again.
My current steed is a BMW F750 GS which I really enjoy and I’ve just purchased a 20 year old Yamaha Dragstar 650cc, I’ve no great plans for it but its nice to have around.
I was a Blood Bikes volunteer for over three years, I’ve toured all over Europe plus one epic tour of South Africa, I’ve done quite a few of the club Riders Rallies and four or five Irish Photo Rallies which get me all over the country.
